Why use a character wheel

A blank page is easier with someone to put on it. Sixteen story characters are on the wheel, so one spin gives you a hero to draw, write about or act out. Spin twice and put two of them in the same story.

Give every student a main character
Teachers can spin for the class, or let each writer spin their own, and start the story from there.
Spin a character for a drawing challenge
Spin, set a timer and see what everyone draws. Spin again for a friend for them to meet.
Act out a character for the group to guess
One player spins in secret and acts out the character until someone guesses who it is.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add characters from my favorite books?

Yes. Click “Create your own character picker” and type any characters you like.

Is this good for story writing in class?

Yes. Spin a character here, then a place or an opening line on the story starter wheel.

Is the wheel really random?

Yes. Every entry has a slice of the same size, and where the wheel stops is picked with your browser’s cryptographically secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues), so nobody can predict or rig the result.

Can I change the entries on this wheel?

Yes. Click “Create your own character picker” to save your own copy. You can then add, remove or rename entries, change the theme and spin settings, and share or embed your wheel.
